School Clubs

Spirit Squad

The CES Stingray Spirit Squad is a group of grades 4-6 students who help plan and organize special events for our student body throughout the school year.  They have been involved in: planning dress up days, the annual air-band contest, selling Valentine candy-grams, and helping pack food hampers for the Calmar Christmas Elves.

Pay-It-Forward-Posse

The Pay-it-forward-posse is a group of students who volunteer in a variety of ways in our school.  The idea is to pay forward kindness with no thought to reward for themselves.  Their reward is that they feel good helping others.  The major project that is the responsibility of the posse is the recycling in the school.  Through this group there are also many opportunities for student leadership.  They are organized into 4 teams and each team is responsible for something.  They also help out with special events, landscaping, library and garbage duties.  They are an essential part of our school team!

Choir

Our music teacher offers choir in the fall and in the spring to students in grades 3-6.  Students in the choir perform at special events throughout the year.

Drama Club

The drama club runs in the winter between the choir sessions and is offered to students in grades 4-6.

Computer Club

The computer club will be offered to grade 4 – 6 students through the winter months.

Library at Lunch

During the winter months students in grades four to six had the option of visiting the “Library at Lunch” on a rotational basis. Many students took this time to work on assignments, read, or browse through the new books we have added to the collection.

School Reach

Our grade 6 students are encouraged to participate in both Junior and Intermediate School Reach teams. They study all subject areas together as well as independently. The team competes in a provincial competition.

Can Spell

This competition, sponsored by The Edmonton Journal, caters to grade 4-8 students. Students qualify by writing a written test at school. The top speller then writes a test to qualify as a competitor with students from 70 participating schools.

Intramurals

Calmar Elementary offers lunch-time intramurals for grade 2 to 6 students throughout the year. Activities include mission impossible, beach volleyball, basketball games, indoor soccer, and floor hockey.

Cross Country

Students in grade 3-6 begin the cross country season in September.  In October, the team has the opportunity to participate in a district wide cross country event in which students run in an individual race of 1200 metres.

High Jump

Grade five and six students are able to be a member of the High Jump Team.  Eight students from CES are able to participate in the Black Gold High Jump Meet traditionally held in May of each year.  Weather permitting, this meet is held outside.

Track

Students have the chance to attend the District Track Meet in June. There are relay races for grades 3 and 4 as well as grade 5 and 6. Practices begin in April or May, depending on the weather.
